Editorial update

Some years ago, I read Steven King's biography/notes on the writing profession. I remember one thing he said, was to go through the draft, then put it aside, then come back to it when it will be fresh again and re-edit and rewrite. That is the stage I am at now.

I have been going through the first story to get it into a manuscript form with the intention of submission/shopping. As I have done so, I have been ironing out parts of it, filling in the minor holes, and looking for the areas where the plot requires things be mentioned and set up. Chekhov's Store is a convenient place to shop for these things; in one case I 'had the gun being used in act three' but had not 'mentioned it on the wall in act one' so I had to go 'put it on the wall.' that is the sort of thing I have been on the look out for.
In another case, I have found a hole in the plot that needed filling; this being an area where I just had never written what happened next, instead skipping forward in time. I can't do that now, so I have to compose and tell what happened, and listen for the characters piping up and saying 'No it happened this way.'
