doing road work to fill in plot and story holes

I have been working my way through the primary story of Caspian and Karen. I have gotten to a point where the pints are there, but the story has not been fleshed out any.
I have taken to going through the text and opening it up to annotate it and then printing the sentences and paragraphs so that I can look at them with pen in hand and write what comes. Mostly it is filling out the ideas, without much dialog yet.
I am a bit concerned about how my dialog interacts with my narration in where it shows up and how natural it sounds.
The other thing I have been doing is going through what is written and trying to unify the tense, to get it all to third person narrative.
One other thing I have noticed is a dearth of place names. I have places and descriptions, but no names. Kind of like going on a vacation and saying 'I went through four towns and one city, but I have no clue what the names were.'
